Notes: From Anderson: The Compleat Ship-wright is important as being the first printed work in English dealing purely and simply with naval architecture. It goes fully into the designing of a ship of 60 ft. on the keel, giving a sheer draught and a midship section. It gives also some notes on "laying off." Unfortunately it wastes much space on tables of square roots and other purely mathematical instruction. The third edition of this book was published in 1669 the fourth in 1678 and the eighth, under the title Marine Architecture, in 1716.
