The Navy Records Society in 1902-14 in five volumes with introductions and notes by Mr Oppenheim. Vol. iv, containing the more important part of Book iii for our purpose, was published in 1913.

Sir William Monson's Naval Tracts in six Books appear to have been written between 1624 and 1640. Book iii, which alone deals with shipbuilding, contains references to events of 1635 and a criticism of the ~ames, built in 1633; on the other hand, there is no mention of the Sovereign of 1637. Its value consists chiefly in its incidental remarks. The explanations of sea-terms and details of shipbuilding are too similar to those of Mainwaring and Smith to be looked on as independent evidence. This part of Monson's works was not published till 1704, when the six Books appeared as Vol.111 of Churchill's Collection of Poyages. They were again printed by
