From Anderson:
It is a splendid volume of nearly 400 large pages with 22 plates and makes a very good second to Witsen in importance. As has been mentioned in the MM it exists, not in two editions, but in two variants of the one edition, the difference lying in the dedication, where Van Yk appears on second thought to have been anxious to conceal his knowledge of Witsen's second edition. The original unaltered dedication is by far the rarer. To know the difference at a glance, turn to the third page of the dedication, the first page of sheet **. If the first line begins with van IJk, it is the earlier form; if van Yk, it is the later.
From Brazilius:
At least two variants exist. Error in pagination: 354 for 364. Van Yk describes the Southern Dutch style of building ships.
